Database Server
A database server is generally a piece of software installed on a computer which is never turned off, this computer would be called a server and act as a host for the database of information.
Because the data contained within the database will need to be accessible at all times of the day, the server computer would be left on 24/7.
The benefits of storing integral information on a server is that access permissions can be granted and data back-ups can be made from a central location.
Running software on a server also allows the server computer to do all the processing of the information, because of this Servers are often very powerful computers and reduce the need for the computers which access the information to be more expensive powerful machines.
