Email mailing lists are a collection of email contact details and allow distribution of one email to many recipients at one time. Email lists are an advancement of traditional postal mail lists which are used to send blanket letters, newsletters, publications or marketing material to a predefined list of contacts.
When email became a new method to contact many people at once, sometimes distributors would collate all email addresses and place them within the ‘To:’ field of their email client, this would then allow all recipients to see who else has received the correspondence and causes many data protection and privacy issues.
The correct way to do this would be to send out each email separately in a automatic manor by mailing list software.
